Sergio Piccoli

Criticism

"...So Piccoli appears to have perceived that the problem is not one of shadow and light in accordance with contrast, not even in the most typical venetian way that can be recognised as the foundation, but as tension, hints, suggestions made and immediately refused, trusting to the immediacy of the gesture it evokes, despite everything, giving up description, being the "description" of the gesture and the gesture itself is as descriptive as it is rapid and elusive. For this reason his painting is as far from abstraction (in the sense that we give this term today) as it is from every natural analogy."
