Carlo Pasini

Criticism

Carlo Pasini is a painter. I realise that the statement can be difficult to digest, considering that his works have the distinct tendency towards three-dimensionality, and that - no less importantly - they are largely made using materials that are not exactly those of a painter. And yet Carlo Pasini is a painter. He is, owing to the open and curious attitude he has towards forms and colours, which he views as substances that do not necessarily have to inhabit the white space of the canvas. I believe he is a painter, owing to the experience he developed over the five years in which he frequented Aldo Mondino's atelier, where he soon learned that painting has no limitations of field and space, and that it is more a forma mentis, an emotive and spiritual mood which can be applied to any object.
